An artists impression of what our new entrance will
look like in June 2007!
drawn by Greg Crouch
The project was first conceived in 2003 when
the pressures of disabled access regulations for publically accessed
building were considered by the church meeting.
A building comittee was formed and we started to look
at what we needed to do to our church premises, recent approaches by
potential hirers had turned us down due to our poor toilet and kitchen
facilities. this together with a church that wanted to do more christian
outreach in the village made the list of musts and wants very long.
We appointed an Architect known to the URC, Clifford
Patten of Lewis Patten and considered alternative designs. The church
meeting agreed on a design that creates a single attractive entry to
the church bulidings (we currently have 4!) Inside toilets including
a disbled toilet all with hot and cold water! Creating a new kitchen,
leveling the schoolroom floor and the floor in the worship area removing
some of the pews but not all and creating a store. The project was assessed
by quantity surveyors to cost including fees at just under £150,000
and in 2004 we had about £5,000.
Fundraising has been one of our main focuses
